It's easy to go to the gym a few times a week and then assume you will just sit back and watch your muscles grow. But there are many other factors involved besides just physically working out and targeting your muscles through weight training.

Having a bad or inconsistent sleeping pattern can cause you to lose results in the gym. Getting a good workout in the gym is not the only thing that sleep affects in your daily routine. Lack of sleep can cause you to not have the energy to do your normal things during the day, and will set you back tremendously. So the worst thing you can do for you body is not sleep, or have an inconsistent sleeping pattern.

This article will show you the various reasons why sleep is so important to your workout.

If you are new to working out and just getting started then you will need to know that when you lift weights there is a considerable amount of damage done to your body. Your body gets microscopic tears in the muscles from lifting the weight, and needs sleep to heal itself.

Trying to confuse the body while working out is important. You want to keep the body guessing so it doesn't become immune to the weight leaving you with little results. This is the opposite of what you want to do when you sleep. You want to make sure that you stay on a consistent pattern that way your body knows when to start healing itself.

Lifting weights, and working out requires a lot of energy, and focus. If you do not sleep properly, you will not have the energy to get the workout you need. Taking that into consideration means you will take days off or your workouts will get lighter because you do not have the energy.

Most people who are new to weight lifting will realize that you have to incorporate it into your lifestyle, and in order to do that you will need motivation. Getting motivated to go to the gym is not easy and lack of sleep will make it even harder.

Lack of sleep can cause mood swings, where normally at that time of the day you are exciting and ready for a hard workout, now you're tired and unmotivated. Getting little to no sleep will make it so you get behind on other things you do, because you are moving and working slower. This means that some days you may not get to the gym, and that's how a decline starts. Once you take one day off, then you start making excuses for taking more days off.

Finally, the unseen reason why sleep is so important for great bodybuilding results is that sleeping restores and maintains a natural rhythm with your body's hormones.

One of the biggest things in bodybuilding is your body's ability to burn fat constantly. This requires you to have a high metabolism. When you sleep your body releases some hormones into your bloodstream that are essential for proper metabolism.

You need to make sure that you are not sleeping a wide variety of different hours every night. Sleeping for 5 hours one night and 11 the next is not the same as sleeping for 8 both nights. As stated earlier you want consistency.

The best thing to do is to set yourself up with a routine that gives you enough time to get rest at night. This way your body can repair itself and help you to achieve your fitness goals.
